This course will equip students with essential knowledge in financial planning, investment fundamentals, tax planning, insurance, retirement planning, and estate planning, enabling them to make informed and strategic financial decisions for their future.

On completion of this course, the students will be able to

  1. : Examine the significance of financial planning as an important aspect of decision making in Personal finance
  2. :Acquire knowledge about investment alternatives and evaluate investment from the perspective of risk and return
  3. Acquire knowledge about fundamental of tax planning
  4. Evaluate and Choose right insurance policy at right time
  5. Develop insights in to Retirement planning and its relevance along with estate planning
  6.  Contribute  effectively  in

• Introduction to Financial Planning, Financial goals, Steps of Financial Planning,
• Time value of money ( Future ans Present Value)
• Money Management: Components of Money Management, Budgeting for skilled money management-Phases
• Financial Services for Financial Planning-Types, Saving Plans, Evaluating Saving Plans
• Payment methods-Electronic payment, Checking Accounts, Other payment methods
• Consumer Credit- meaning, advantages and disadvantages of credit, types of credit- Open end credit and closed end credit, Credit Score- Improving credit score.

Investment Fundamentals:

• Process and objectives of investment, Factors affecting Choice of Investment.
• Concept and measurement of return & risk for various assets class, Measurement of portfolio risk and return, Diversification & Portfolio formation.
• Asset allocation and Investment Alternatives, Factors that reduce investment Risk, Sources of Investment Information

Personal Tax Planning:

• Income tax Fundamentals- Taxable income meaning , types and process to compute taxable income.
• Exemptions and deductions for individuals, tax avoidance versus tax evasion.
• Filing Income tax return.

Insurance and Risk Management

• Introduction, Types of Risk, Steps in insurance planning, Importance of Insurance
• Non-life insurance-Home and Property Insurance, Automobile Insurance-Factors and Coverage
• Health, Disability Insurance- Meaning of health insurance reasons for availing health insurance, Types of coverage, Disability insurance and coverage
• Life Insurance- Introduction, need, Types of Life Insurance Policies and Riders to life insurance policies.
• Factors to be considered before buying life insurance.

Retirement Planning:

• Retirement Planning- Goals, Process of retirement planning, Pension plans available in India, Reverse mortgage, New Pension Scheme.
• Estate Planning- Need, benefits, and tools for estate planning- Power of attorney Nomination, Features, content of the will and Trust- benefits, Difference between will and trust
