Extension Activity 2020 " Awareness of Government schemes for the weaker section of the society”

Financial inclusion and Financial Awareness is an important step towards inclusive growth. It helps in the overall economic development of the underprivileged population. In India effective financial inclusion is needed for upliftment of the poor and disadvantaged people by providing them the financial products and services. In order to promote the Financial inclusion and generate the awareness amongst the target population an extension activity was organized by the Department Of Financial Studies, IIS (Deemed To Be) University in Collaboration with Rotary Club Jaipur Gurukul and State bank of India (Mansarover branch) on 26th February 2020. The main objective of the activity was to create awareness amongst the residents of the Dadabari basti about the GOI initiated schemes under National Mission for Financial Inclusion (NMFI), namely, (a) Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) , (b) Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and (c) Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana.

The kacchi basti of Dadabari,sanganer was selected for this awareness program and the target group comprised of economically weaker section like temporary workers, household maids and the people living in Below Poverty Line (BPL) in Kacchibasti.The students also conducted personal conversations with all the people of the locality, listened to their problems and guide them to resolve it. The response of the people was positive and the people of the locality showed interest opting for the schemes.

Banners and posters were created to strengthen the impact of the messages among the people of the kacchibasti.Students created pamphlets which had sufficient information of the basic requirements to open an account under these schemes and also the benefits provided under each of the three schemes separately . Students made a thorough presence in the basti by spreading the message through a nukkad natak and a very interesting Puppet show. They interacted with the residents of the basti and explained them the procedures of registering under these schemes and availing the benefits of such schemes . The students along witrh the bank professionals also helped them open the account under such schemes and helped them resolve the issues faced while opting for the schemes.

An awareness of government initiated schemes is essential for the development of society. The activity created an awareness and helped the Backward society to understand the importance and take financial benefits offered by Government in the form of various welfare schemes. The response of the people was positive and the people of the locality showed interest in opening accounts under such schemes and asked students to guide them.
